*Assembly Required Kick Off Party

8 PM – 10 PM

Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar

79 Coxe Ave, Asheville, NC 28801

:: $10 General Admission :: $5 Assembly Required Artists ::

Begin the weekend with the official *Assembly Required kick off party, hosted by our sponsor: Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar!

Embrace your nostalgia, while welcoming our 32 participating artists to town. This will be your first opportunity to talk with the artists face to face, as well as the organizers of the Asheville Designer Toy Expo, in a more casual environment… before we all Get Our Toy On!

With over 30 classic arcade games and pinball machines all set to free play, the Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar gaming area offers Pac-Man, Xevious, BurgerTime, Mortal Kombat, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, NBA Jam, Centipede, and House of the Dead to name a few.

Their pinball collection ranges from early to mid-90s themed machines such as Attack from Mars, Doctor Who, Johnny Mnemonic, and Road Show to newer titles such as Godzilla, Mandalorian, Led Zeppelin, Black Knight: Sword of Rage, Hot Wheels, Legends of Valhalla, and TMNT, which are very rad.

In addition, there is plenty of room for console gaming with over 400 classic cartridges and discs for over a dozen unique systems.

On the refreshment side, you can order a range of brews from the 16-tap draft system or one of the many canned options. In addition to beer, Level 256 Arcade Bar offers a variety of wine, cider, and hard seltzer options. A selection of gamer-friendly food is also available from local Asheville food companies.

Celebrating five years running in 2023!!!

As the premiere destination for independent designer, bootleg and art toy artists and collectors, *Assembly Required honors this melting pot of artistic expression as a true to form turn of the century, pop surrealistic art movement.

Nestled within a valley of subculture, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain range, *Assembly Required brings artists from across the continent to celebrate this avant-garde culture. Attendees will see works of art that – quite honestly – may never be seen again. As many of the pieces produced by these artists are made in extremely limited runs.

Giving us the soundtrack we all deserve, official *Assembly Required DJ, Cousin TL, returns once again to our 2023 expo to funk your ears up! Growing up in Detroit, MI, Cousin TL consumed Rock, Ska, House and Motown. Living in New York City and visiting Philadelphia, PA, he witnessed the evolution of Neo-Soul. Along with his successful syndicated podcast, “Supa Dupa”, on Pacifica Radio, Cousin TL was responsible for introducing Neo-Soul to the mountains of Asheville NC. Now the award winning Cousin TL is celebrating 15 years on Asheville’s radio airwaves and continue giving us damn good radio 103.3 Asheville FM.

In celebrating the designer toy subculture, *Assembly Required recognizes the pop-culture that inspired and influenced children decades ago – children who grew up to be the artists on the forefront of this art movement. Enhancing the ambiance of the artist alley, the 8-Bit sounds of the *Assembly Arcade Lounge echoes the golden age of video games, thanks to *Assembly Required sponsor Level 256 Classic Arcade Bar. So take your cold beverage over to some old school arcade cabinets and selection of home entertainment systems, listen to Cousin TL spin some tunes, and admire your new one of a kind art toys!

Did you spend too much time worrying about a good excuse as to why you didn’t want to come out for day one?

Maybe you were here yesterday, and you passed on one thing that haunted you all night! So much so that you have to come back for a second day!?! Yep… been there. Thankfully…

If for some strange reason you didn’t purchase a ticket for day one (sus?), come for day two anyway to simply support an independent event that supports awesome independent artists! Asheville hasn’t seen anything like this, and we want to keep coming back.

Don’t wait! We’ll only be here one more day, before you have to wait another whole year to get your toy on!

“It’s the best event in Asheville. I look forward to it every year.”

As in independently run event, a lot of hard work that goes into organizing this event behind the scenes. If you look forward to coming every year to this event, please consider a donation in any amount to help us continue to bring this very special event to you; to the artists; to the collectors of this community.

Thank you. Your support is humbling. And immensely appreciated.
